Jersey Design:
Originally painted as a canvas, this season’s design depicts a map of part of the Kulin Nation, where Melbourne United call home.
The painting centralises around Narrm (Melbourne), indicated by the dark grey meeting circles in the centre of the jersey behind the wordmark NARRM, as well as the white meeting circles that represent the club’s home in Cheltenham, further south in Boonwurrung country. Boonwurrung country is made up by the two bays Nairm (Port Phillip Bay) an Murranbiik (Western Port Bay), as well as Millowl (Phillip island to Warmoon (Wilsons Promontory).
The map also shows the old animal foot prints that once used Nairm before the great waters rose and flooded the bays. The point of view taken of Country is from our Creators Spirit god’s eyes. Bunjil, who travels as a Wedge tail eagle, is always looking over us to make sure we are protecting the land and the children on Boonwurrung land. Bunjil is integrated into the design on the shorts.
